Lean

Attended Lean Training. Lean is a production management philosophy brought by TPS Toyota Production System. Intel has started implementing the training and workshop. It has piqued my interest, so here I am scooting over, making a move and joining the training. Click here for more information about Lean or wikipedia :)

I have definitely been acting hastily recently :)

My buddy and teammates are constantly giving me words of "wisdom" that eventually lead me to start watching football. In order to keep ourselves engaging with the world issue, every morning we will have breakfast together while indulging in the world cup heat, watching football match together at the cafe. and they would even steer me in the right direction to judge performance of a match. Dumbfound. They are watching each match with all their senses and all their hearts. These engineers are really leaving my ending nerve totally exposed lol.

Days are good. I am getting closer and more friends. I am taking up more responsibility. I like my buddy the way he is taking care of junior. I know I am having the benefits for I am coming as an intern and people are willing to guide and answer my curiosity. Most importantly, I can always take the initiative steps to ask with no worry.

I wish to channel and keep these good energy. Would time stop at these few months?

orientation

I start out my internship hoping to get an image overhaul throughout the four months for a clear look at myself. I wish to be stronger that mere sentiment clouds my judgement no more. After 3 weeks of internship, I turn up to internship orientation at PG9 Intel University at 21 June 2010. I am happy to meet up with many of my fellow university friends who are doing their internship at Intel Penang Design Center (PDC). Excitement bubbles up when you get to meet someone familiar and close after months. We share our juicy tidbit of stories for doing practical at design center and production floor are completely different experiences.

The orientation starts out with a little out of sort. Heavy traffic at penang bridge, as usual. Rains, pouring down so heavily in early morning, stinging here and there that I am totally wet when I get in the hall. There are raftly 60 of new hired including interns and graduate trainees. We do a lot of activities during orientation. Quiz, drama, presentations, competitions, plan tour as well as listening talks and watching video clips.

oh well sometimes we are accustomed to accept the unexpected, but also learning to embrace it. We should be grateful life is out of chaotic and savor the silence. I gonna be living relaxingly on the edge for these two days for buddy is taking two days leave. It means less workloads and I shall spare some time to complete the Intel online courses which are going to due soon at 5th July.

Anyway its a good time to start planning and researching on trip. Yes i am going to pamper myself for a trip after months of internship. Last trip was more to visiting concrete jungle and architecture of great building across history. This trip I wish to have more nature beauty sight-seeing.

step in. exert your power.

Recalled the last Monday, I was feeling a little out of sort. and the feeling got stronger when I reached office in the morning. I felt helpless with the work I was supposed to complete in the weekend. Self-deprecation and inferior bubbled, almost chocked myself. I feel so much better and comfortable after hearing the phone call from a friend, far away at KL. I miss my friend very much and the texture of voice comforted me a lot. Its a calming voice =)

Taking a deep breath, its Monday! This is what I always remind myself to combat the negative feeling :P My positive energy should be devoted and largely focused on how to improve myself and get stronger! and ahah the following days are so great that I cant wait to share with you guys over here! Perhaps my friend is my lucky charm =)

On Monday, I took shutter myself and turned up at KM2 RnD floor. Last friday I'd followed my buddy and another 2 engineers to attend a short course to learn ways to operate the new machine. and now I had to start carrying out test on defected unit using the fluorescent scope. It was more to Failure Analysis. At first, disturbing thoughts almost took the best of me because I was unfamiliar with RnD floor as well as engineers there. After putting on my smock and goggle, I started to carry out my tests. Undeniably, I spent hours to tune the setting and parameters for each unit. My buddy was nice enough that he came to KM2 to bring me for lunch and went back to KM6 after meals because I have no idea where is KM2 cafe located =D Tests completed after two days so I am back to KM6 currently.

Today I'd finally completed the test my buddy has assigned to me after two weeks of dealing with ASM machine and laser scanner at KM5 production floor on two different products. and next week is presentation on results of test. I should speed up on analyzing part and graph plotting. Wish me luck :P

Good luck everyone out there for exams, internship and working. Sometimes I believe an answer for a torturous problem we have, might bear with unexpected and welcome gift. At least, we'd grown up a little each and every day. Sometimes all we need is just a little spark, and then suddenly, its as if everything is illuminated.

Commitment is growing, living thing. I shall feed it with optimism :)

song of the day

Let the past stays where its belong :)

ps. internship orientation on coming Monday at PG9 Intel Penang. Looking forward to catch a glimpse of there !

An update of recent me. In short, I come to the conclusion that my internship is stressful and flexible. I am doing my best to climb the learning curve yet I get quite tired with two hours drive every day, long hours at production floor learning from different engineers, carried out tests and validation myself, and tasks to bring home to complete and analyze data collected from tests and update my supervisor every morning.

I am the only intern in the department. So, communication with the seniors who are all experienced engineers becomes a knowledge that i have to brush up. I am afraid that sometimes my words are immature. But i enjoy taking the initiative steps to approach and learn from them.

I am getting more tensed up to meet expectation of my supervisor. But its a learning path. People always reminds me that i am lucky to have him as my supervisor for his years of experience and he is willing to train me. I appreciate it :) Everyday i get to learn something new. This afternoon, I am given a chance to follow my supervisor and another two senior engineers to RnD building to learn the technology of a newly bought small machines which cost 100k USD. and once i have completed the task i am currently doing at production floor, I have to go to RnD building to start performing next task with that machines.

Lastly, I followed my supervisor to a meeting this morning and its total impressive to me to see bunch of process engineers using those big bombastic words that i have no idea in the meeting and the excel projected are all graphs and endless numerical numbers. The atmosphere is also tensed up, and i shall conclude that 职场没情讲。Engineers who fail to fuifil targets set will be screwed up in the meeting regardless position and age.

However, the working hour is flexible. No punch card in the morning. I can come to work at 8am or 10am. I can go back at 4pm or 6pm as long as your works are done. But too bad in the past two weeks i am working 10 hours from 8am to 6pm most of the days. With the two hours drive every day, I am spending half of my day 12 hours outside. At night, data analyzing and plotting graph. Oh. Exhausted.

Enjoy yourself. But dont overindulge to the point where you feel greedy.

Am stepping back to analyze the recent me. Not getting myself real comfortable nor making a plan that cant be changed on the fly. Because i am just not in the mood to carve anything to stone recently. I am learning to be brave to take off in a wild direction of some kind, not being taken off guard. I'll go for it. I am so used to feed my every decision-making process with inputs from others. can i just turn a deaf ear and just follow my heart. My first ever job in this 21 years do thrilling me up. Waking up at 6 and reaching home at 7 have slowly deprived myself from the daily pleasure. Anyway, I should really get in the ohm to finish up reading Eclipse before the movie is on in July!

Mundane details hold more knowledge than i realize. thats what i shall conclude for today's fruitful day after work. Sometimes we should focus on small details. At times i have little fondness to be meticulous. Discrete. Frugal. and of course sometimes those traits bore me to tears :)

things to be carried with me every weekday - goggles and worker pass

Second week of internship, things are finally falling neatly into places. I'd slowly adapt to the new environment and new friends. I am on the precipice of a brand new chapter and big fun is ahead, upward swinging. So now is the perfect time to pack up all the troubles and drop them off at the dump! I found decision-making often comfounding me. and that leads to procrastination.

anyway happy working.
